The comparative method lies at the root of any sociological research that goes beyond description. The use of comparison in the study of human society, history and culture has a long history. The legacy of comparative work in the filed of social theory can be traced back at least to the Greek Antiquity and, never interrupted, this sustained tradition has since then been only reinforced as the time has passed. The interaction and co-operation between the sociology of education and comparative education may lead to the realisation of the three basic functions of science: descriptive, explanatory and operative. b. The main limitation of this perspective is that societies differ in so many ways and therefore may not always be compared meaningfully. Habitus is the set of socially learned dispositions, skills and ways of acting that are often taken for granted, and which are acquired through the activities and experiences of everyday life.
